Turton Tower
Nestling in peaceful woodland in Lancashire, Turton Tower was originally built as a fortification against the marauding Scots but has been modified extensively over the centuries, the original square tower dates back circa 1420 when William Orrell married Elizabeth de Torboc. After living beyond their means the tower was sold to Humphrey Chetham who sided with parliament during the civil war and allowed the roundhead soldiers to use the tower as a hostel. The tower passed through a number of owners until the last owner Lady Nina Knowles left the house in trust to North Turton District Trust.
