Dry Stone Walls
This is another image from above Malham Cove.
It gives a closer example of the limestone blocks called clints and fissures called grykes and of course the dry stone walls..so called as they contain no form of cement but due to the skills of the peopl who built them have stood the test of time and weather.And belive me this place gets some weather.

For those familiar with the area of yorkshire they will know of the miles upon miles of dry stone walls across the county.For thiose who have not been there these walls set the landscape in an almost patch work fashion.Many have been there hundreds of years and when you think that they were built with just pure manual labour one has to wonder the man hours and pure physical effort that went into their construction.They spread from hill to dale and when seen as they disappear over hills sometimes over 1500 feet high I often wonder how they managed to do this back breaking task.
