Alston Station
This is a bit HDR and some post work.

Some Info
At a height of 875 feet above sea level Alston in Cumbria is Northern England’s Highest Narrow Gauge Railway.
The Alston to Haltwhistle branch line was opened by the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway Company in 1852 and closed closed by British Rail in 1976. A Presevertion Society was set up in 1973 but being unabkle to save the original standard gauge line, succeeded in opening a narrow gauge line along part of the old track bed in 1983.
Two hundred years ago, Alston was the commercial centre of an important lead mining area, producing about 10,000 tonnes of lead per year and whilst the line no longer carries freight it does have a very pleasant passenger service which runs for 2 1/4 miles through some very picturesque scenery. Some people stop and picnic at the various stations enroute and some travel the route to start walks in the area.

I loved this piece so pleasing to view and breathtakingly awesome. So much I spent several I mean several hours to render it 1920 x 1200 in oil. I wanted to look as good as your photo but needed it to appear painted in oil and still look great. I have been making windows xp logons and to do that you need stunning visuals like the work here on Deviant. I would very much appreciate if you would give me permission to use your photos for my xp logons. Alston Station is my first choice out of your many photos and if I could I would like to use more. I have an account on deviant it has some of my logons if you care to look

I backpacked to Haltwhistle twenty years ago to catch a train to Newcastle (and then one back to Leeds). After half an hour of standing on the platform a chubby lady came out of the station with a bacon sandwich in her hand to inform me about the rail workers strike that had started that day. I had to catch a bloody bus into Newcy and then a packed coach from there to Leeds. Never got a bite of that sandwich though ;)

Hi,
I guess I would have been bl**dy furious especially back packing.We were on our way for a holiday in Alnwick,never done that coast before.The place was pretty deserted when we got there and as I took shots of the station and the old steam engine the driver asked me if I would like to rise in the cab or footplate as I think it is called.Being fascinated by steam engines since I wa a kid it was like a huge birthday present.My wife looked on as we chugged up and down the line.That must have been some journey on a packed coach,quite a distance just on a coach on those roads.Lovely area thought.
